The Internet: Coming Soon

by Jesse Koester on Sep.19, 2009, under Uncategorized

I just thought you guys might like to know what the internet is going to be like once it’s invented and implemented into households. Apparently, Mom can order clothing from afar and Dad can stress about how much his wife is spending.

Get ready. This ‘internet’ thing is going to be huge.

Thing Doing

by Jesse Koester on Aug.31, 2009, under Pictures

Scroll down to skip the blathering and get to the 3D pictures. For those who favor blathering, you are in luck today.

One of the most exciting things about this job is getting involved with people who do their own thing. That is, people who have been committing 100% to their passions long enough to see them go from interest to hobby to freelance to career. Everyone I’ve met who has made it through that chain seems insanely happy, as well they should be.

For example, VIRG has been dancing since he was ten. That’s where his heart was, is and will be. Perhaps, you’ve seen him and the things he does. His birthday party is this Sunday at Vuenos in Shibuya. The party is from 4:00 – 10:00 PM on September sixth in the Year of our Lord 2009 (平成21). If you are around that district, you should definitely check it out. Performances abound (01 Crew, J-Team, J-Kids, VIRG, Gemini, Shisei, DME Boys, and so on and so on). We will be there with our trusty cameras. If you see us, be sure to wave and smile like you’re having a lot of fun (which, no doubt, you will be).

Another perennial thing-doer in Tokyo is Deanne The Hooplover. I know she has a last name and I even know what it is, but anytime I ask her to say it on camera, she just says she’s Deanne The Hooplover… Anyway, she loves hula-hoops (a bit of information I’m sure you have already reverse engineered from her title).

Honestly, hula-hoops just look like circles to me. But, in the hands of this woman and her friends, they become so much more. These women makes these circles go in circles. This process might sound like geometry homework, but it is actually one of the most incredible and hypnotic things in the universe. These girls hold dominion over circles in much the same way Poseidon holds dominion over the ocean.

If you want to bear witness to such majesty, you should pass by Yoyogi Park (assuming you’re in Tokyo) this Sunday. I am under the impression that they will be hooping near the lake-thing area of the park, but I could be wrong. They’ll be doing their thing from 1-4. If you show up, there will surely be at least one circle that you can spin in a circle (again, way more fun than it sounds). Also, Deanne is collecting for a hoop-based charity. So, bring all that money you were trying to get rid of and I’m sure she’ll find a more than worthy use for it.

Without further ado, here are the new 3D pictures. In case you don’t have glasses, I’m posting the 2D versions.

Avatar Preview Screening

by Jesse Koester on Aug.21, 2009, under Youtube or Vimeo

We got to see an advance screening of 15 minutes of Avatar in iMax 3D. This is the new film by James Cameron, best known for his work directing The Terminator, Terminator 2, The Abyss, Aliens, and Titanic. He’s been off the feature film radar for about a decade now, investing most of his time directing a pair of 3D documentaries (Ghosts of the Abyss and Aliens of the Deep) and producing a slew of films and TV shows.

Well, he’s back on the silver screen* with Avatar. Here’s the preview:

I think we all can agree: WHOOOO!!!!!!

* ‘Silver Screen’, in this case, referring to the silver matte necessary on the exhibition screen to prevent diffusion between the stereo polarized images and not referring to the silver sheen that was prescient in cinema’s infancy when black and white film development actually used a silver halide.

Summer Sounds and More 3D Pictures

by Jesse Koester on Aug.16, 2009, under Filming Day

I just spent yesterday afternoon at Summer Sounds, a kicking party down in the Azabu area. The party was well hosted and well attended, to be sure. And, Ice Block was there filming the myriad shenanigans that local revelers submit to when good sense and alcohol mix (that is chatting amicably and occasionally splashing). No doubt, we’re amped to schlep on over to next weeks iteration (August 23rd).

We took some video, but it’ll be a little while until that’s edited. In the meantime, you have to settle for these 3D pictures (and their colorful 2D siblings).

Junk-B Studio Shoot

by Jesse Koester on Aug.15, 2009, under Filming Day

We spent yesterday shooting for a dance studio called Junk-B. A lot of time out in the sun. But, the footage looks top notch. We can’t wait to get it into post-production and cut the footage.

Also, we shot for the first time with our 3D still camera. Some of the shots came out OK. But, most were jacked. We’re still working out the kinks of the camera. But, I will share the best one with you. So, whip out those red/blue glasses and enjoy!
